How to tell if acne aid soap is right for your skin

January 3rd, 2013, admin

One can choose to purchase an inexpensive over-the-counter cleanser found at a drug store and the supermarket or one can choose to spend more money on the high acne aid soaps at a dermatologist’ office. The money that you spend is not that much important as compared to how a product works towards the treatment of acne. Some of the acne aid soaps contain a very strong alkaline pH which dries and itches the skin, below are what to look out for while choosing a product.

Go for a non-alcoholic, gentle and a non-abrasive cleanser. Consult your dermatologist who should be able to help you find an appropriate product that bests suits your skin type. Your skin might be dry, oily or a combination of both, he should be able to clarify and write out a prescription that best suits your skin condition.

To hydrate your skin one should be on the look-out for products that contain emollients that is mineral oil and petroleum or humectants that is alpha-hydroxyl acids and glycerin. These hold moisture in your skin and helps in the smoothening of rough areas. A person can choose to add a toner to restore a more natural pH balance to the skin.

Medicated cleansers that contain fighting ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, sodium sulfactemade and salicylic acid help in the cleansing of the skin. They clear up blocked up pores reducing the redness and swelling of the skin. Sodium sulfacetamide with benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria and interferes with the growth of bacteria.

While washing your face it should not have any lingering effects on the skin, one should not feel any of the following effects. You should not feel tightness on the face after 5 to 10 minutes after drying the skin. Tightness is caused by the excess evaporation of water.
One should not see a scale and grayness after your skin dries. Products that their ingredients are alcohols, acetone or siding agents tend to have this effect. If you see irritation or redness after drying it is a sure sign that the skin barrier has been broken down.

Any break-out hives on the skin is most likely caused by the problem that which is in the ingredients such as herbal essence, floral and fragrances. Note that the longer the soap stays on the skin the more it is likely to irritate it. The more alkaline your product is, the more it is likely to irritate the skin.

Most of the dermatologists have come to the agreement that an acidic acne aid soap with the same pH as the skin which is 4 to 6.5 is indeed the best product which can get rid of bacteria. Do not forget that a few acne bacteria also found on the skin can also be beneficial, by consuming the excess oil without damaging the pores. The right type of acne aid soap makes the disease to subside, but one should test it out if it is an over-the-counter product which is not prescribed by dabbing on a tiny part of the skin inside the forearm to note whether they have a reaction to it or not.
